Huge congratulations to Jennifer Byrne, the first ever Offaly Rose to be crowned International Rose of Tralee! Jennifer works as a junior doctor in the Accident and Emergency Department at University College Galway and came out on top of a total pool of sixty four Roses who participated in this year’s International Rose of Tralee festival.

Speaking in front of 2,500 guests at The Dome in Tralee and live on RTE Television with additional global streaming on the RTE Player International service, Jennifer said:

“I can’t believe it. I’m still in shock. My heart is about to jump out of my chest. It is fantastic. The first thought I had was, ‘Did Daithi just say my name’. I wasn’t expecting it at all.”

The people of Offaly and in particular her home village of Clonaderig will be celebrating today and looking forward to seeing an Offaly representative lead the festival for the first time in fifty nine years.

Congratulations again Jennifer, get some much earned rest and we will see you on the other side!!
